Sizing a Cooling Tower

To determine the estimated capacity of any Cooling Tower System, it is recommended to use Liquid Molybdenum or similar trace product and follow the formula below:

Pounds of trace product added x 120,000 x percent active ÷ parts per million of chemical trace increase


To determine the volume of a Cooling Tower Sump:

Length x Width x Height x 7.5 = Water Volume of the Sump


To determine the volume of a Chilled Water Loop:

The GPM of the recirculating pump ÷ by 3 = tonnage of the Chiller
Tonnage of the Chiller x 20 = System Volume
